Well I made an executive decision and decided to send the Duramax by tow truck to Gardnerville. Thanks for all the advice and it really was a crapshoot whether or not to drive the truck or have it towed according to most of the mechanics I spoke with at the different transmission shops

Tomorrow morning AAA will pick the truck up and take it about 100 miles north to a transmission shop. One of the Glass creek regulars who also comes up every summer let me use his AAA card. Lucky me I get to stay here at Camp and ride, fish and relax.... Until I get the repair bill

By noon I had all the details taken care of and decided to go fishing. Steve and I caught our limit of 10 trout within 20 minutes and tonight we had one of the best fish dinners since last summer.

Still a 21 day limit and the new camp host is a super nice guy

Did some more reading about the allison. Readers digest version: Seems the recomended fluid is transsynd or TES 295 allison spec fluid Fully synthetic. Much better cold weather flow, will not oxidize and much better high temp stability. The spin on is a 35 micron filter and should get you 50k mi before needing changing. The internal filter, refered to as a rock catcher, only needs to be changed during rebuild. Dex III is no longer inspected or tested by any authority so you roll the dice as to it's quality. Dex vI should only be used in trucks built for the 2007 model year, mid 2006 bulid date because of seal compatibility. However a tes 295 fluid is better. Trans-synd can be used in the transfer case also, been running it in mine for 20k now. I guess when you concider that trans-synd will get you 100-150k before changing the added cost is worth it to me.

Wes and sue are just looking for an excuse to head out early I can hear wes already, well honey, guess we'll just have to stay out there for 2 1/2 months

Howie to camp host: Theoretically my time should not start until my truck is back and I'm made whole again...

Yup....

I'm waiting for Wes to post about his truck adventure

Then he's got to come down and visit me so we can exchange great stories about tow coverage over the campfire
