Default Turkey injection marinades ?

Hey all,
I'm going to do another Trash Can Turkey for T-day, (well actually 2 birds), and wanted to get some opinions, and/or suggestions.

The first big bird is about 23 lbs., and will have some sort of traditional herb seasonings, and some sort of injection marinade. That one is up to my wife, as to how she wants it seasoned.

The Second bird is a 13 lb. "experimental bird", and I will be cooking it right after the big bird.
I think I would like to do some sort of "Drunken Whiskey Smoked Turkey", and would like some suggestions on how to mix up a marinade for injection into the turkey.

my first thought here is to use some Mesquite Liquid Smoke and Jack Daniels mixed together, and then pump as much of that as possible into the meat.

should I ad anything else to the pre-mixed marinade ? maybe some melted butter ? or any other suggestions ?

Any thoughts on the ratio of Liquid smoke to Jack Daniels ?
or does anybody here, have a favorite/similar, Smoke/Whiskey marinade ?

I'm also considering a "dry rub" of Mesquite seasonings on the outside, just prior to the "Impalement", and then lfire it up.

what do you guys think ?

I'm not big on marinades, rubs or any of that, I prefer to let the meat, fat and skin provide the flavor, but of course a good salt base is always good to bring out flavors.

But, I have heard from numerous people to use any citrus based fruit, lemons/oranges, grapefruit/tangerines etc... for bringing out the flavor. Most recommend placing a bird in a cooler with water and throwing a bunch of cut up fruit in for a day or two, making sure to keep the ice/water at the cold end of temps. Maybe something like that with a decent rub on the outside. Just a thought.

I have brined them, rubbed them, injected them, and quite honestly, the best thing that I have found is Tony Cachere's creole butter injectable marinade. The kid comes with it's own syringe, and the flavor is most excellent. This is what all of yall had when I made that turkey at Skinner. Very moist and flavorful.

We were in Lowes last night and they even had marinades

We usually use the Butter Creole inject able. Pam gets then from Albertsons.
