As Bob wrote: ……Section 235, entitled "Enhancing Efforts to Combat the Trafficking of Children," requires humane treatment of minors crossing the border from foreign nations. It also mandates "safe and secure placements," calling for careful consideration when placing unaccompanied minors in residences within the United States. That law lays out one procedure for child immigrants from contiguous countries, like Mexico and Canada, and another for children from noncontiguous countries, like El Salvador or Honduras.
Since October 2013, over 50,000 “unaccompanied children” from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras have crossed America’s porous Southern border to claim green cards via the immigration courts. In addition, their moms, dads, or those accompanying them are also allowed to enter. The Obama administration has sent none of these children home. Instead, federal officials have chosen to set aside normal immigration practices and to allow this wave of young illegal immigrants to apply for green cards via asylum applications and to disperse across the country. These kids have enrolled in public schools nationwide. According to the National Center for Public Policy Research, the Obama administration has not subjected a these children to proper medical screening processes. Why are there problems?…………. Officials from the CDC have confirmed that they are investigating a mystery illness that has been rapidly emerging in towns and military bases housing these undocumented immigrants. The CDC has outbreak specialists in place who are currently attempting to identify whether the causative agent is bacterial or viral. These illnesses are appearing in communities near where the government housed scores of illegal immigrants in detention centers. Also, the rapid explosion of mystery enterovirus EV-D68 is sending children to hospitals across Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, Utah and eight other states. “In Kansas City, about 475 children were recently treated at Children’s Mercy Hospital, and at least 60 of them received intensive hospitalization,” CNN reported. They sky is not falling, but why does this administration continue to welcome undocumented, illegal into our country? Why is this administration still allowing flights with people who are leaving West African nations with Ebola? Today, in the Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan writes: It is one thing that Dr. Frieden, and those who are presumably making the big decisions, have been so far incapable of making a believable and compelling case for not instituting a ban. A separate issue is how poor a decision it is. To call it childish would be unfair to children. In fact, if you had a group of 11-year-olds, they would surely have a superior answer to the question: “Sick people are coming through the door of the house, and we are not sure how to make them well. Meanwhile they are starting to make us sick, too. What is the first thing to do?” The children would reply: “Close the door.” One would add: “Just for a while, while you figure out how to treat everyone getting sick.” Another might say: “And keep going outside the door in protective clothing with medical help.” Eleven-year-olds would get this one right without a lot of struggle. If we don’t momentarily close the door to citizens of the affected nations, it is certain that more cases will come into the U.S. It is hard to see how that helps anyone. Closing the door would be no guarantee of safety—nothing is guaranteed, and the world is porous. But it would reduce risk and likelihood, which itself is worthwhile.

By the way I'm not a huge fan of the way the administration is handling the whole ebola deal. Kinda no big dealed it to Ebola czar and ebola swat teams. Ebola is nothing new, we've known about it, know about it and dealt with it before. I think it's a political response to pressure from the panic. What I don't believe is that there is any conspiracy nor great threat of outbreak nor anybody in our .gov plotting to make things worse. People will make mistakes, people at CDC, people in .gov and people in our hospitals etc. They are people and until the robots take over that's just how it is.

Bob,
I watched and listened intently. Bottom line is that both doctors claim that "we know what we're dealing with" I saw nothing in that snippet that give me confidence in their statements. With Frieden’s 7-year-long tenure as commissioner of the New York City Health Department, he helped ban public smoking in bars and restaurants. He also worked alongside Mayor Michael Bloomberg to promote a soda tax, arguing that it would help to lower obesity rates. He’s the architect behind Bloomberg’s very annoying and much aligned big soda ban. Regardless, it's exasperating how the same brilliant doctor who so vociferously opposes an Ebola travel ban sees no problem with banning big sodas and public smoking. Maybe we can find a smart 11 year old to help them

What they explain in the clip is why closing the borders will make it worse. We don't control the world, they can travel to Egypt and all the other countries listed, then here. THAT is why closing the border would make it worse because it would make it much harder to control. In your own words, please explain specifically how they are wrong in that thinking? I don't care if you have confidence in their statements, what in their statements do you find incorrect, specifically in your own words.

Please explain how letting it travel freely around the world/ having to control it in several countries is easier than controlling it in one area?
Damn good thing we don't control the world. We don't have enough nuts to protect our own people.

That's exactly the point they are making in the video Mark. We don't control the rest of the world, so we can't stop them from flying anyplace else. Are you proposing we just shut down our borders completely to every country? Pretty drastic considering so far one person has gotten here with the virus and it's the hospital fucking that up that has led to 2 other contracting the virus.

I guess this is where I would hope the UN would step in and close their boarders. Take non residents out of the area to a quarantine area until its safe for them to return to their respective countries.
