Barbara and I are thinking about divesting ourselves from our dirt bikes. While at Rasor I realized I was having just as much fun on the ATV as the dirt bike and you don't have that whole tipping over thing. Anyway, I'm kinda struggling with it because I'm pretty sure that dirt biking will be behind us, forever, but I like the idea of not bouncing off of the desert terrain with my body as much.
When did you guys decide to let go of the dirt bikes (if you did) and did you regret it?? Mid 50s are approaching and I feel like we may be flirtin' with disaster. |

Got rid of mine about then also, for the same reasons. BUT every time I see the bikes flying past the quads, Rhino's and buggies, I can't say that I wished I still had one. I always enjoyed the perspective from standing up, on the pegs, and being able to see so much farther ahead, and absorbing the nasty terrain through my legs, instead of my ass!

Sold bike and quad a year ago after an accident in a car that almost killed me, then a few close calls on bike and quad....took the accident as a sign, I have been flirting with disaster a very long time. I do miss the quad and the bike but I love my jeep!

I have more fun on my dirt bike then any of my other toys.

Thanks for the feedback folks.... I'm going to have to do some real thinking and soul searching before pulling the trigger on selling. I just don't want to wait too long and have value drop. They also take up valuable space in our small(ish) garage.

You'll miss riding in the National Parks, Preserves and Monuments... you gotta be street legal. We still have to explore the east side of the Mojave National Preserve with you guys.

I quit dirt bikes and quads a few years ago, I think I was 52ish so I rode them for 40+ years. Nothing as fun as a 2 wheeler off road for my money. My problem is my body feels 65 (in large part because of those dirt bike years) but my mind still feels 23. Seems about every 3 years I'd have a serious get off resulting in broken body parts and recovery just gets worse and takes longer the older I get. The amount of fun I have in a UTV makes it pretty easy to get over losing one of the greatest passions of my life. It also made the transition very easy to accept and I couldn't be happier with my decision... unless someone can get me my 23 year old bones back. Still ride on the street and that quenches my 2 wheel thirst plenty. Hope that helps...

Never felt "cat" like on a bike so the change was easy for me. Few back issues every now and then took out the quad. I'm in a cage where I belong
