Do truck campers have titles from the DMV?

What kind of mounting hardware do I need?

From what I have read they do not have DMV titles in Ca. Looking to buy mine from a private party to avoid any kind of official paperwork and tax.

Here is a thread I started on rv.net, talks about mounting hardware

These look pretty decent and easy to use http://www.torklift.com/x.php?w_page=original_fastguns

Mikey,

No DMV or licensing with a camper. Good news is that you can put it on your pick-up and re-register the truck as a passenger vehicle. Doing that removes the DMV weight fee permanently. I'm saving about 200 bucks a year.

Once you re-register the truck, make sure you get a personalized lic plate as the standard issued plate will identify the vehicle as a passenger vehicle. There is a big fine if you get stopped and the truck does not have the camper on it. I've already gotten ticketed with the camper off and the CHP did not notice any irregularity because of my personalized plate. CM know too ;- )

Also, with my State Farm Insurance, my truck is now insured as an RV and the premiums are annual and about 1/2 of what they were before. I don't know if the other carriers are doing that also.

Mark,

Don't short sheet yourself...... go with the Lance. One other thing to consider is the height of the bed ceiling. I could not sit up in bed in the older Lance models. The newer Lance units (2006/7 or newer) are taller and have plenty of headroom. It makes a big difference.

Very good info, Howie. Thanks. Wouldn't of thought about headroom in the bed
