Check out THIS ONE. It would make a great donor car. Then just pick up a 4 seat chassis. Chirco has them unwelded for $800 and welded for $1300. Transfer all the parts over to the new chassis. Add 2 more seats and there you go....$5k

Then there's THIS ONE. They're asking $6. May be able to get it for $5. It's already a 4-seater. So theoretically, it may be a turn-key buy for you.

It looks like Dans has a better price on the 4-seat chassis by $100.

5k is going to get you swing axle withVW power Stay away from the Big Bore VW plants as they get to be extremely finnicky a 1835 has plenty of power for a beginner Rail. I would think that a decently conditioined Used Beam front end 2-4 seat rail can be had fairly easy these days in teh range of money you are looking for just as Eric has already posted a couple.

Brother in law is sellin his old buggy. For a starter beam car it is the shit! Has all the good stuff on it. Think he is asking 10k but I'm sure you could get him down 2-3k.

You would be a couple of K over your 5k budget but it would be well worth it
