Default Lost a Good One;

A small group of us (7 rigs) went out to Dumont Dunes this past Thursday, and pretty much had to stay in the rigs all day Friday, due to rain. By 3 PM or so the rain had mostly quit, and 4 of the group, (2 quads, 1 YZF450, a mid-travel Subie buggy went out to play. It was to be the last time any of us that were left in camp, would see our friend, son, and dad, Steve Vallarino alive. He wasn't killed in the dunes themselves, but rather, 4-1/2 hours later in a Pahrump ER, while awaiting transport to a hospital in Vegas. He succomed to massive head trauma as a result of his quad landing on him while tumbling. He never regained consciousness, and probably never suffered. Below is a couple of quotes from some close family friends that have posted over on FB. We will miss you dearly Steve. RIP my friend.

"Settle your differences with people that matter to you. 13yrz ago my life hit bottom, my friend Steve Vallarino came to my rescue, he was a rock for me.
We had some differences a couple yrz ago and have not been close. My dear friend lost his life fri, riding in the sand dunes that we used to enjoy together. My chance to forgive and forget is gone. Dont lose your chance to make things right with people in ur life that matter. . Swallow ur pride and do it, do it NOW". . by C.N.

"Having a difficult time wrapping my brain around the loss of one of my sand family members. He lost his life, as my brother C. N. put it, "riding the dunes we shared together." I know many friends on here have hobbies that we love to partake in, and loving spouses who stand by us and watch us do them. From my friends who drive race cars (cousin in Florida) and off road vehicles to my musician friends who love performing and brave coming home late at night or early in the morning, where nothing good ever happens on the highways. Take extra safety precautions to protect yourselves for your families and close friends. The world is a much better place with all of you in it. Love to you". by B.A.

We had a Bakersfield Fireman, and a student Paramedic with us who went up on top of the highest sand dune (for a strong cell signal), and called 911. Those with the injured rider called out vitals to him, while he repeatedly asked for air support. All emergency helo's from Barstow, and Vegas were grounded, due to extremely low cloud cover, and the military was requested, and we got the same reply. 2 ambulances were dispatched from Baker, one being a 2WD Ford F350 based truck and the other, a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4. The "Golden hour" went WAAY past. The accident happened @ 5:05 PM, and the ambulances didn't arrive til 6:25 PM. Steve was taken to Pahrump, supposedly stabilized, and then had to wait for another ambulance to arrive from Vegas. He past, just before that ambulance arrived, unfortunately.
