In 1985, while Iran and Iraq were at war, Iran made a secret request to buy weapons from the United States. National Security Adviser Robert McFarlane sought Reagan's approval, in spite of the embargo against selling arms to Iran. McFarlane explained that the sale of arms would not only improve U.S. relations with Iran, but might in turn lead to improved relations with Lebanon, increasing U.S. influence in the troubled Middle East. Reagan was driven by a different obsession. He had become frustrated at his inability to secure the release of the seven American hostages being held by Iranian terrorists in Lebanon. As president, Reagan felt that "he had the duty to bring those Americans home," and he convinced himself that he was not negotiating with terrorists. While shipping arms to Iran violated the embargo, dealing with terrorists violated Reagan's campaign promise never to do so. Reagan had always been admired for his honesty.
So, Bob was right (again).

I know you despise the Reagan era.... as I did too when I used to be a liberal

But before you bash Reagan further, it’s interesting to see how history is looking back on his presidency. Here are writing from seven leading political historians and presidential biographers which you might enjoy. Even Stephen Ambrose (now deceased) who was once a ponytail-wearing liberal has some nice things to say.

I find it interesting that even though Reagan had proclaimed the Soviet Union an "evil empire," the former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has said that Reagan was sincere — “an honest rival and a friend”. Gorbachev also said ”I deem Ronald Reagan a great president.”

Can you imagine if Obama pulled a stunt like this???

Thank you Obama,

Your Arab Spring created the second strongest historical wave in the Middle East since the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire. The revolution established new governments in many regions and even succeeded in overthrowing ruling governments.

The evil George Bush, made the following now prophetic remarks:

“To begin withdrawing before our commanders tell us we are ready would be dangerous for Iraq, for the region and for the United States. It would mean surrendering the future of Iraq to Al Qaeda. It would mean that we’d be risking mass killings on a horrific scale. It would mean we allow the terrorists to establish a safe haven in Iraq to replace the one they lost in Afghanistan. It would mean we’d be increasing the probability that American troops would have to return at some later date to confront an enemy that is even more dangerous.”

Obama’s Middle East policy has led to the ISIS crisis and broad instability in the region and it’s clear that he made a big mistake by supporting the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt after a supposedly “democratic revolution” during the “Arab Spring” toppled President Hosni Mubarak.

What Obama misunderstood about the Arab Spring was that the movement was made up of illiterates who were susceptible to more organized Islamist "lunatics." The Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and now ISIS in Iraq and Syria, are all basically the same.

Obama's 'Arab Spring’ disrupted normal lives and caused huge death tolls of civilians. Nearly half a million Yemenis have been displaced from their homes in recent years. Almost 1 million Yemeni children under age 5 face acute malnutrition, with 250,000 at risk of dying. According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 700,000 people, almost half of them expatriate workers, fled during the civil war, and few have returned in Libya. On the economic front, the damage is estimated to be close to $800 trillion.

The revolution has brought about huge death tolls, with Syria having 80% of total deaths. In the four most violent uprisings, in Egypt, Libya, Syria, and Yemen (all four of which slid backward on the Failed States Index for 2012). A total deaths of of 200,000+ people have been recorded in the affected countries.

And on top of all of this pile of Mid East rubble, Obama is negotiating a nuclear deal with the terrorist Islamic Republic of Iran……. He told NPR today that he would not require Iran to recognize Israel’s right to exist as part of his nuclear agreement with one of the most dishonest regimes in the region.

Bob, what the fuck is going on with your leader...... ?
